Armed gunman steals wallet and sandwiches from Jimmy Johns driver

"At 2:23 a.m. Sept. 19 Greensboro Police received a phone call from Jimmy John’s on 411 S. Tate Street in reference to the robbery of one of their delivery drivers.  The driver was making a delivery at the apartments on 1220 Oakland Avenue when he was approached by a white-male with a beard wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt.  The suspect displayed a handgun and took from the victim his wallet and some sandwiches before fleeing on foot in an unknown direction.  No injuries were reported. The name and address of the victim is being withheld temporarily."

DADA to celebrate more than 30 years of the ARTS in downtown Winston-Salem

The 30 + Festival, to be held Sun., Sept. 27,  from noon until 10 PM, will celebrate the founding of studios on 6th and Trade Streets during the early 1980's by a handful of artists and guided by visionary artist Ron Propst and wife Tamara Propst. This pioneer effort was the seed for what has become the Winston-Salem Downtown Arts District. The Arts District has continued to grow into the vibrant and eclectic mix of galleries, studios, shops, businesses and residences, saturated in the arts and the arts life, that is found today along 6th, Trade and Liberty Streets.

The Downtown Arts District Association (DADA), Is another product of those early group efforts and is the coordinating organization for 30+.

Plans for the festival began in the fall of 2015 and will include visual, performing and literary arts by Arts District Artists - The Dance Stage to showcase various types of movement, a Literary area with readings, booking signings and more, extensive Art and Craft demos and Exhibitions by galleries and artists studios, some of which are opening especially for the festival, Food & Beverage areas by district restaurants and bars, food trucks, The 30+ Chalk Contest on Liberty St with adult & youth categories a film and image screenings by district artists and the 30+ Stage located in the intersection of 6th and Trade featuring headliner The Devon Allman Band, son of legendary bluesman, Gregg Allman.

Greensboro College Music Department Presents Music Sampler Sept. 24

"GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro College Music Department presents a Music Sampler at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in the Gail Brower Huggins Performance Center in Odell Building on campus.

Several Downtown Greensboro Roads Closed Saturday for Two Events

"Two events in downtown Greensboro tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 19, will close several roads for most of the day.

From 7 am through approximately 9 pm, vehicular traffic will be prohibited on the following roads:
    • S. Elm St. between W. Market and W. Washington St.
    • February One Place between S. Elm St. and Davie St.
The closures are to provide a safe environment for the Greensboro Pride event in the morning and the Peace Festival in the evening.

Roads will be barricaded and officers form the Greensboro Police Department will be directing traffic and assisting event participants.


Motorists are asked to be especially vigilant where pedestrians are present."

Greensboro Police Department Offers Training for Bicycle Ride-Along Program

"The Greensboro Police Department is offering another opportunity residents to bike alongside bicycle officers as they patrol the city’s neighborhoods and downtown area.

To participate in the bicycle ride-along program, residents must attend a bicycle ride-along training session on Saturday, Oct. 10. Training begins at 8 am at the Lewis Recreation Center at 3110 Forest Lawn Drive. It includes a chaperoned bicycle ride, and should conclude no later than 4 pm. People interested in the program may apply through the “Community Programs” section of www.gsopd.org. Applications must be received by October 1.

 “This training is not just for bike enthusiasts,” said Officer C.S. Schneider. “It’s for people who want to learn more about police work and how police officers on bikes can connect with community members.”


In the training, participants learn the key elements of cycling safety, along with how this mode of transportation is used in police work. Class size is limited to 20 people.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, in good health, and pass a background check. Riders are encouraged to bring their own helmets and bicycles. Bicycles and helmets for those who need them will be provided. Attendees should wear comfortable clothes and bring a small lunch or snack.


 This is the third bicycle ride-along training offered by GPD. The first session was in July 2014. The ride-along program supports Chief Wayne Scott’s strategy of better connecting with all of Greensboro’s residents."

It has 108 locations throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Indiana.[1] Tijuana Flats is known for its hot sauce bars, murals and off-beat culture. Customers order at the front counter, and are served after sitting. The restaurants are fast-casual hybrids, being best known for outstanding service, quality and cleanliness.
Tijuana Flats uses zero trans-fatty acids (TFA) cooking oils, 100 percent hormone free, white meat chicken, fresh produce and all of its menu items have been lard free. Flour or whole-wheat tortilla options are available for select items. This restaurant features a “Power Lite” selection, offering low-fat cheese and fat-free sour cream in any menu item.
