NC Press awards

Got together with all the various print media types in Cary last night for the 2008 Press Awards banquet.
We went in a stretch limo, because that's how we roll. Also, we had a coupon.

A lot of journalists will tell you how unimportant these awards are, how little they mean to the greater body of work, how, really, it's all just a bunch of bulls
hit.
All these things are true.
But I like winning awards all the same. Also, because I was a freelancer for so many years, I was excluded from competition -- not too many papers submit the work of freelancers for these things, largely because it is a huge pain in the ass to read all the back issues, make clippings, fill out the forms and all that other crap, plus there is some expense.
So we went and caught up with our colleagues from around the state. We are affiliated with a regional newspaper chain and it's nice to see some of our friends from those papers as well as some of our fellow ink-stained wretches here in the Triad and also our alt-weekly brothers and sisters in arms.
Plus, everybody got two drink tickets.
I also like get a couple in me and chat up the folks, knock back a decent piece of prime rib and get a look-see at the journalistic community.
Some good stuff this year -- too much to enumerate, but you can check out the winners here. No links to the work. Pretty weak.
I managed to con my way into a first place award for editorial writing. Here are links to my winning entries.
It was our only award this year. But nobody's going to tell me that Jordan Green, Amy Kingsley and our design department didn't have a great 2007.

Hey, bro, congratulations on your award. Do you know who won second place? Just wondering.

Heh.
Congrats to you guys, too. Really good showing. Is it me, or is Greensboro becoming a media town?
