When the Texas A&M University-Commerce student newspaper,
The East Texan, ran a
front-page story about a member of the school's football team getting pinched in a drug bust, members of the team
removed all copies of the free newspaper from campus. Head Coach
Guy Morriss admitted his part in the caper.
- “I am proud of my players for doing that,” Morriss said. “This was the best team building exercise we have ever done.”
It was also a crime -- the
East Texan explicitly states that the first copy is free and all additional copies cost a quarter. In all, the damages equal about $1,500 bucks, making the "team-building exercise" a felony.
The Battalion of Texas A&M ran a
follow-up story reporting that the athletic department decided against taking action against the coach, but that the players will face "disciplinary action."
Pretty swell cover-up for a guy
who went 5-5 last season.
