Found Objects for the week of 6/2-6/9

This week’s edition of Found Objects kicks off with a very special one-year anniversary celebration. One year and 100 stories ago, the Story Bus, a mobile recording studio that has traveled to countless community events brought the concept of Storyline to the citizens of Winston-Salem. On Friday, Storyline celebrates its one-year anniversary with a dance performance and documentary film at Hanes Auditorium on the campus of Salem College. The event features live music with the festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m.

For further info, call 336.499.4402. Speaking of documentaries, the Art Grind Film Series at Krankies Coffee continues on Thursday with a 7 p.m. screening of Pelada. In honor of the World Cup, Pelada explores the world’s most popular sport and derives its name from the Brazilian name for pick-up soccer games. Pelada is a synonym for “naked,” or soccer stripped to its essence. Director Ryan White Skypes will be on hand for a Q&A session. Krankies is located at 211 East 3rd Street in Winston-Salem.

Also on Thursday, Uptown Wine & Gallery presents a poetry reading with author Joseph Mills, who will read from his new collection of poems, “Love and Other Collisions.” The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. For further info, call 336.679.2941.

On Sunday, Barnhill’s Bookstore presents a Story Hatchery Reading Celebration. At 2 p.m., the students of the Story Hatchery in Winston-Salem will read their stories with special guest, Muppet Joey Fettucini. Barnhill’s is located at 811 Burke Street in Winston-Salem.

On June 9, the Paper Lantern Theatre Company opens its run of Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire’s comedy, “Kimberly Akimbo” at Theatre Alliance of Winston-Salem, located at 1047 Northwest Boulevard. Described as “a shrewd satire, a black comedy, and a heartbreaking study of how time wounds everyone,” the production represents Paper Lantern’s third foray into local theatre in the past year. Based on the success of “Dead Man’s Cellphone” and “The Laramie Project: 10 years later,” theatergoers should shouldn’t miss “Kimberly Akimbo.” The show runs through June 20 with 7:30 p.m. show times nightly.
