Police investigating possible bomb at Adams Farm Shopping Center

Greensboro police are investigating a possible bomb situation at Adams Farm Shopping Center. Lt. James Hinson said police received a call about a suspicious package in front of Apple China restaurant and discovered a white powdery substance, at which time they decided to evacuate a portion of the shopping center and block off High Point Road, Mackay Road and Adams Farm Parkway.

Jamestown News editor Ogi Overman, who is on the scene, said the package was described by another lieutenant as "a black, rectangular pelican case." Hinson said the hazardous device team is taking pictures of the package and X-ray-ing it. The hazardous device team's remote mobile robot, which is used to dismantle bombs, is deployed.

"It could be a normal mistake where someone left a suitcase and there may be no ill intent," Hinson said. "We've got to act like it's ill intent until we find out otherwise."

UPDATE, Nov. 16, 12:09 p.m.: For anyone still following this story, the outcome might seem anticlimactic. Lt. Hinson said today that the suspicious item turned out to be an empty box. He added, "After visually inspecting it, I didn’t see any white powder."
