The Rev. Peter C Graves is the senior minister at Centenary United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. The Rev. Graves weighed in on YES! Weekly's annual "Meaning of Life"issue published Dec. 22.
“Especially at Christmas we remember that the truth of God has been revealed in a person," Graves says. "In his life, death and resurrection, Jesus embodies his message. Every aspect of his life and ministry is saying ‘This is what God is like. This is what it means to be really human. This is what God intended the world to be.'"
"To discover the purpose of life therefore, we need to follow the maker’s instructions," Graves continues. "This involves our discovering a living faith in God, a hope that beckons and enables us to realize our potential, and a love for God and each other that motivates us to trust, obey and serve. The more we grow in that faith, the more we discover that life really does have purpose and meaning."
