Former exalted cyclops raises cane at council

During the speakers from the floor segment of tonight's Greensboro City Council meeting, former Ku Klux Klan exalted cyclops EH Hennis launched a tirade against Councilwoman Mary Rakestraw that sounded familiar to anyone who's been hanging around public meetings in Guilford County over the past five years.

"I had despicable, lying hussie Mary Rakestraw...."

Mayor Bill Knight would have none of it. He interrupted the elderly and frail-looking Hennis, saying, "Sir, we won't allow that." Then Knight ordered the city's video cameras cut off, and called for security to remove the former Klansman from the chambers.

Assistant City Manager Michael Speedling was immediately at Hennis' side.

"Who the hell are you?" Hennis asked. As another person appeared to help escort him out, Hennis raised his cane and glared at Mayor Knight.

"You'll be hearing more from me, you heartless bastards," he shouted as the security detail nimbly escorted him from the room. "You'll be paying for my trip to the courthouse."

Look for photos tomorrow.

So if two negatives make a positive and the definition of hussy is:
1. a shameless or promiscuous woman, does that mean a shameless hussy should be intended as a compliment?

What is really bothering me is people are blowing this man's behavior and past "accomplishments" off. How are we missing the fact that we have a "Grand Cyclops" of the KKK openly challenging the City Council. Greensboro - indeed NC residents know the Klan is still around. I am trying to figure out who is selling the idea that the "frail" looking cyclops is just a "stark raving lunatic". Just because he doesn't look strong enough to put somebody in a tree anymore, doesn't mean he is not still highly influential within his circles. Sometimes all it takes is one word from the wrong direction for everything to spiral out of control. Something has obviously shifted in America that triggered the dormant biggots that it was time to wake up. About 30 years ago, these same type of people wrapped Guilford County in a veil of uneasiness that most people act like doesn't exist. I am not buying the crazy old man line and I am on high alert!
