The 13th annual RiverRun International Film Festival will feature 118 films, including 57 features and 61 shorts from 32 different countries that will be screened over the course of 10 days in Winston-Salem beginning April 8. On Tuesday, the film festival held its annual launch party at the Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston-Salem. Festival executive director Andrew Rodgers greeted scores of arts patrons in attendance by expressing his gratitude for the festival's title sponsors — Reynolds American and the Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County — as well as festival staff and volunteers.
An 18-minute clip trailer offered the audience a sneak preview this year's lineup of films, which includes a documentary feature competition; narrative feature competition; a shorts program; a program entitled "Altered States," which showcases relatively low-budget features; a program entitled "Sidebars," which features films that complement several other festival offerings; a community cinema initiative; a spotlight on contemporary French master filmmakers; a spotlight on the festival's "Films with Class" initiative; a late night category and a number of special screenings.
RiverRun will also sponsor four panel discussions and workshops, including a screenwriting seminar with Angus MacLachlan, who penned the 2005 indie hit, Junebug, and Stone, which starred Robert De Niro and Edward Norton.
