BREAKING NEWS: Greensboro council will reconsider controversial redistricting plan

Greensboro Mayor Pro Tem Nancy Vaughan says she will make a motion at the next council meeting on May 3 to reconsider the redistricting plan approved on Tuesday.

In a statement to YES! Weekly, Vaughan said, "I have spoken with my fellow council members. We have decided that this issue has become too controversial and we don’t want to do anything to further divide the city.

"I am going to request that we review this process and maybe come up with a map that is more agreeable."

Vaughan added that she does believe that the city needs to redistrict because the variance in population between the districts is to high for the city to remain in compliance until the next Census in 2020. She declined to discuss any specific precinct changes, adding that she would like to see council confer with GIS Director Steve Sherman to come up with a plan that is more acceptable.
