Following the finalization of former City Attorney Rita Danish's departure from the city of Greensboro last night, the city council voted to appoint Tom Carruthers interim city attorney. Carruthers has worked as an assistant city attorney since before Danish's appointment last year. Previous to that, he worked as a prosecutor in the Guilford County District Attorney's office.
Carruthers said today that he has not decided whether to apply for the permanent position. He also said that he is interim city attorney "pending further direction by council," explaining that council's vote didn't make it clear whether he was interim city attorney for the meeting last night or until a permanent appointment is made.
