17DAYS Festival and Living Art America are presenting the event, which will feature 40 professional and emerging artists from the Triad and around the world
"17DAYS Festival announced today that it is teaming with Living Art America to present “Living Art Greensboro," a body painting competition, on September 28, 2014, at the Elm Street Center in downtown Greensboro. Forty artists—some from the Triad and others from across the US and around the world—will compete in two categories: Professional and Emerging Artist.
The artists’ work will be evaluated by an international panel of judges. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top five artists in the Professional category and the top three in the Emerging category. The first-place winner in the Emerging category will be guaranteed acceptance into the Emerging Artist category in the North American Body Painting Championship in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 4, 2014. Both the “Audience Choice” and “Best Model” will also receive a cash prize.
Using the theme, “A Day in the Life,” artists will have six hours to paint their models. They will begin painting at 10 am in the Empire Room at the Elm Street Center; the public may attend a See the Artists at Work session from 2 to 4 pm, when the artists must stop painting. The artists and their models will take to the runway at 5:30 pm for the presentation and judging; the public may also attend this Runway Show and Judging segment in the Regency Room in the Elm Street Center.
“Body painting is exploding in popularity around the world,” explained ArtsGreensboro President and CEO Tom Philion. “We are so lucky in the Triad, because five-time World Bodypainting Champions Madelyn Greco and Scott Fray live in Reidsville, and they have nurtured an appreciation for this ancient art locally. 17DAYS Festival and ArtsGreensboro are proud to partner with Madelyn and Scott’s organization—Living Art America—to bring this edgy, provocative, and beautiful event to our city."
Philion continued, “It’s important to ArtsGreensboro—as the host of 17DAYS—to enrich the Festival schedule by showcasing artists from different backgrounds and across a variety of genres in various performance spaces. 17DAYS is about including and engaging as many members of our community as possible in the local arts scene and exposing them to everything Greensboro has to offer.”
Although models will not be nude, this event is for mature audiences.

Tickets may be purchased individually for the afternoon and evening sessions. All-day passes and VIP passes, which include a meet-and-greet reception with the artists and models, are also available.
