Junior League Launches First Community Day of Service at Cone Elementary School

A day of service to improve building and cones of Cone
Elementary with our families and community partners.

"GREENSBORO, N.C. – As our school grows and thrives with our 2nd year of programming in full effect, we want to provide opportunities to involve everyone with a great day of service to, for and with Cone Elementary. On Saturday, March 21 the Junior League of Greensboro will be hosting a community service day at Cone Elementary. The Junior League volunteers and the P.A.W.S for Parents will be their heading up the mural painting in the cafeteria and a ribbon cutting at 10am for the new playground. The entire community is invited to assist with projects including organizing the Media Center, building picnic tables, a cafeteria mural, PAWS painting, building and stocking a food pantry, organizing the SMOD Swap Shop and a children’s activity.

"Cone Community Day is a day of service bringing together the entire community: parents, teachers, students, The Junior League and community members! All are encouraged to roll-up their sleeves and get a little dirty to beautify the school; making Cone Elementary a better place for students to learn and grow." - Carley Swaim, Community Vice President.
The Junior League of Greensboro has raised more than $9,000 dollars for new playground equipment at Cone Elementary School through the help of community donations and grants. A bigger playground for these energetic elementary students isn’t the only thing the JLG is responsible for. In their first year of partnership, the JLG provided $64,000 through 12 community programs, 1,886 bags of food through Backpack Beginnings, and 90 students graduated from the 12-week Raising a Reader program.
This year the JLG plans to repeat and further those efforts, with 16 community programs in place providing $70,000 and unquantifiable student experiences. Included in those is the NC FIRST Robotics program with provides 2nd grade students with a “hands-on, minds-on” opportunity to get excited about science and technology by participating in the Jr. First Lego League.
“The Junior League of Greensboro could not be more excited to bring the first community service day to Cone Elementary in such a fun way; welcoming the students, family, and friends with fun activates, high energy, and big smiles!”
