Enrichment Fund grant used to help Grimsley High students attend marketing conference
"Greensboro, N.C. – Guilford County Schools students have new opportunities to attend national conferences, thanks to a generous grant from Dun & Bradstreet through the Enrichment Fund for the Guilford County Schools.
Guilford County’s Board of Education recently recognized the contribution and support from the local business and community group. The first students to benefit from the new grant were four Grimsley High students who attended the International Career Development Conference in Orlando this spring.
The grant was part of the “Future Thinkers, Doers and Innovators Fund” established with assistance from Dun & Bradstreet last year. The fund is used to support student participation in national conferences related to academic or career interests; national performing arts competitions; and academic challenge competitions, such as Science Olympiad, Odyssey of the Mind or Robotics.
Students in Grimsley High’s DECA marketing club were able to attend the Orlando event, which served to develop students’ marketing knowledge and skills for college and their future careers. D'Andria Alston-Thomas, Harrison Pegram, Imani Smith and Victor Vigoya had to qualify for the conference by placing in state competitive events.
Dipti Chhetri, a student at Southwest High, will be the next to benefit after receiving a grant of $600 to attend a conference in California later this month for students studying health care education.
Dun & Bradstreet provides credit and credibility solutions for businesses. The local contribution was facilitated by the company’s EdAhead program, the first education savings plan with a multiple match. Employee contributions activate a match by company dollars as well as a donation to local public schools. GCS is one of six districts in the country to benefit from this program this year.
An independent nonprofit organization, The Enrichment Fund for the Guilford County Schools provides financial support to enhance the educational programs of Guilford County Schools, aiding students needing financial assistance with enrichment opportunities, and to encourage and reward creativity, innovation and outstanding teaching. Since 1994, the Enrichment Fund has supplied more than $1 million in financial resources to students in Guilford County Schools."
