Greensboro Teen Charged in Double Homicide

Chauncey Jamal Slade
"GREENSBORO, NC (Dec. 22, 2015) – A seventeen-year-old Greensboro man is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the shooting death of two men on Bragg St. on Dec. 2.

Chauncey Jamal Slade, 1413 Bellevue St., was served two warrants for First Degree Murder on Dec. 18 in connection with the homicides of Ernest Lemark Cuthbertson, 23, and Jeffrey Devine Hampton, 44.
At approximately 11 pm the night of the shooting, Greensboro police officers were in the Ray Warren neighborhood on an unrelated call when they heard shots fired. Upon locating the crime scene near 1008 E. Bragg St., they found Cuthbertson, whose last known address is 407 E. Washington St., fatally shot. Hampton, of 1511 Avalon Dr., was also shot in the incident. He was transported to Moses Cone Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Detectives have learned that the shooting followed a dispute among Slade, Cuthbertson and Hampton (who are cousins), and others. The nature of the dispute, along with any motive for the shooting, remains unclear. Police have determined that Slade knew Cuthbertson before shooting.

Slade was served the warrants while confined in the High Point Jail after being arrested on Dec. 15 for stealing property from several automobiles earlier that same day. He is also charged with Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling for the Dec. 2 incident.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000 or text the tip to 274637 using the keyword badboyz. All calls to Crime Stoppers are completely anonymous, and may result in a reward up to $2,000."
