Pastors call for boycott against Rhino Times advertisers

Three pastors associated with the Pulpit Forum demonstrated before the ribbon-cutting at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum on Monday, brandishing a manifesto and shouting, "We cannot wait."

There's a lot to unpack in their bill of particulars, which includes the treatment of Officer AJ Blake, allegations of racial discrimination by 39 black officers, the gang unit's treatment of the Latin Kings and the Klan-Nazi shootings of '79, but one item in particular grabbed my attention.

The manifesto, which bears the names of the Revs. Cardes Brown, Gregory Headen and Nelson Johnson, and that of Jibreel Khazan, calls for a boycott of Rhinoceros Times advertisers:

The Rhinoceros Times and the damage it is doing must be challenged: All who advertise with The Rhinoceros Times are unwittingly complicit with the division, confusion and hatred this media source is fermenting in our area. We, therefore, call upon all who advertise with The Rhinoceros Times to withdraw their advertisement. Further, we call upon the citizens of Greensboro and the surrounding area to organize a selective buying campaign and cease buying from businesses that continue to advertise with The Rhinoceros Times.

The Rhino Times has a long history of exposing city, county, and federal government waste, corruption and just plain stupidity. I’ll bet through the years the majority of the Rhino’s targets just happen to be white—but nobody has noticed their white color and whites have not accused the Rhino of targeting whites.

And the Rhino is not afraid to report on fools who just happen to be black, either, like Earl Jones who as an elected City Council member refused to feed the parking meter and routinely parked downtown illegally and even bragged about it. Any idiot who refuses to pay for parking and parks illegally thus preventing another person from parking legally in that same stall deserves to be reported regardless of his or her skin color.

But in Greensboro there are very vocal blacks who don’t want black corruption like Project Homestead ever investigated or reported. It appears that normal checks and balances when applied to blacks and black enterprise is immediately judged as racist. Like this hotel. And out of fear of being called racist, local government under-scrutinized Project Homestead and it turned corrupt and cost Greensboro taxpayers millions.

Citizens are growing very tired of blacks who cry racism when normal checks and balances are applied to blacks and their activities.

Boycott Rhino advertisers? Ha! That will never happen. People are fed up with this stuff. A level playing field of checks and balances irrespective of color must apply across the board in local government. If black police officers refuse to be supervised they must be fired just as fast as white police officers are fired for refusing to be supervised.

Currently it appears the City of Greensboro is unable to supervise black police officers and citizens are losing confidence in their elected officials to correct the problem.
