The Carolina Theatre, in partnership with Scarfone Promotions and 107-5 KZL, is pleased to announce the Goo Goo Dolls in concert on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 8:00pm.
Tickets will go on sale Friday, September 23, 2011, at 10:00am.
The Goo Goo Dolls started in 1986 in Buffalo, NY, headed by vocalist and guitarist John Rzeznik and vocalist and bass guitarist Robby Takac. Drummer Mike Malinin joined the band in 1995, completing the group’s current trio.
Said Rzeznik of the band’s name, “We were young and we were a garage band not trying to get a deal. We had a gig that night and needed a name. It's the best we came up with, and for some reason it stuck. If I had five more minutes, I definitely would have picked a better name."
Among the Goo Goo Doll’s most recognized songs are "Name" from the album A Boy Named Goo (1995), "Iris" and "Slide" from Dizzy Up The Girl (1998), which produced five top-10 singles, and "Here Is Gone" and "Big Machine" from Gutterflower (2002). Their cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit” also reached the top of the Adult Top 40 chart.
Still actively touring and writing music, the Goo Goo Dolls have enjoyed 14 top-10 singles, and have sold nearly 9 million albums in the United States alone.
