High Point University will host emotional intelligence executive coach and speaker Jen Shirkani as part of its ongoing Cultural Enrichment Series. The event, “Emotional Intelligence: Skills for Success,” will be held at 5:30 p.m. March 13 in the Francis Auditorium of Phillips Hall. The event is open to the public; tickets are not required.

Shirkani, CEO of Penumbra Group, has spent more than 20 years as a learning and development specialist, trainer and speaker. She specializes in emotional intelligence and presents it from a leadership perspective filled with practical strategies and immediately usable tips.

Her 60-minute presentation will provide the audience with details on skills that can be learned and developed to best set them up for success by using the power of “Emotional Intelligence (EQ).

“Someone with a high EQ demonstrates a sensibility,” says Shirkani. “He or she builds stronger relationships with others, adjusts to unexpected change well, is more resilient to difficulty, solves problems more easily and remains optimistic in the face of adversity. Studies show a direct correlation between high EQ and higher earnings.”

Shirkani lives in New Hampshire where she oversees a national talent management firm, providing training programs, organizational development consulting and executive coaching. She has been a featured speaker at several national and state conferences, universities and at dozens of organizations nationwide. She is author of “Ego vs. EQ” and holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership. She has devoted herself to improving leadership effectiveness and on making common sense more common.
