"Greensboro, NC - The Volunteer Center is currently seeking 40 high school students to participate in Service Learning Leadership Camp; the completion of service learning projects at local nonprofit organizations in the Greensboro and High Point communities. 40 rising 9th - 12th graders will contribute more than 2,500 service hours throughout June and mid-July. The 4 week camp is designed to empower local high school students to engage in service learning projects, impact their community and learn more about their leadership style. Participating students will have the opportunity to earn up to 66 hours of service learning credit that can be used toward their Guilford County Schools service learning certificate and/or diploma, college applications, school projects, scouting requirements, etc.
The camp runs from June 23rd - July 17th, 2014 with orientation scheduled for June 18th & 19th. The camp runs from 8am - 12 noon at the non-profit project site, Monday - Thursday of each week. A limited number of scholarships are available. SLLC tuition per student is $200.00. Transportation is not provided. Learn more and fill out an application at www.volunteergso.org
(High Point Location)- Located in Northern High Point, students will work on arts, crafts, and gardening projects with people who have intellectual/developmental disabilities
(High Point Location)- Students will create a food pantry to serve residents in the Western High Point area
(Greensboro Location)- Located in the Southeast Greensboro, students will work with at-risk youth (elementary school kids) through mentoring, career exploration, and enrichment activities
(Greensboro Location)- Located in Northeast Greensboro, students will work on a project that involves creating a marketing campaign based on the concept of “home”. Students will conduct research, data analysis, interviews, and hands-on service experiences while creating the marketing campaign.
