"HIGH POINT, N.C., July 25, 2014 – High Point restaurant Carolina’s Diner is painting its business purple to show support for High Point University in a big way.
General manager Alex Kulwicki said the business booms thanks to HPU students, who are some of the most frequent customers at the restaurant, as well as the 80,000 visitors the university draws to the city each year. Painting began on July 24 and continues through Saturday.
“The amount of business that HPU brings to us is phenomenal,” says Kulwicki.
He says chocolate chip pancakes are the item of choice for HPU students. The restaurant’s chocolate chip inventory increases by 400 percent during the academic year.
“During the school year, we more than double our orders to five quarts of chocolate chips per week,” he says, adding that diner employees are excited to welcome students back in the fall.
Carolina’s Diner is one of more than 100 community restaurants, retail shops and more that partner with the university. Passport Partners allow HPU students, faculty and staff to make purchases using their HPU ID card, and other community partners share their university pride through their businesses in unique ways.
“We love supporting HPU. We’ve done little things in the past – like providing ten percent discounts to students and taking the HPU Passport Card as payment – but we wanted to show our support even more,” said Kulwicki. “When the students come in as freshman, we really get to know them, and we like to show them that we care as much about them as they care about us.”
