"Guilford County Manager Marty Lawing has announced the
hiring of a new Deputy County Manager. Following a lengthy recruitment and selection
process, Clarence G. Grier has been selected to fill the position. Mr. Grier brings over 18 years of local government
finance and management experience to the position having worked as an
accounting manager for the City of Norfolk, Virginia from January 1996 to May
1998, accounting services manager for the Town of Chapel Hill from June 1998 to
September 2000, accounting manager for the City of High Point from September
2000 to March 2008 and director of finance for the Greensboro Housing Authority
from March 2008 to November of 2009.
Since December of 2009, Mr. Grier has worked for Orange County, North
Carolina in the capacity of Director of Finance and Administrative Services and
most recently as the Assistant County Manager / Chief Financial Officer.
Mr. Grier earned a Bachelor of Business Administration
Degree from Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina. He is a
licensed Certified Public Accountant in the states of North Carolina and
Virginia and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
and holds Certified Information Technology Professional and Chartered Global
Management Accountant designations with that organization. He is also a member of the Government Finance
Officers Association, the North Carolina Government Finance Officers
Association and the North Carolina City and County Management Association.
Clarence Grier will begin his duties as Deputy County
Manager on Monday, February 2, 2015. "
