GCS announces the transfer of five principals to other GCS schools
"Greensboro, N.C. – Five respected principals will take on new roles in Guilford County Schools next year, bringing their valuable experience to new schools in the district. The transfers will take effect on July 1, 2015.
Dudley High School’s next principal will be Rodney Wilds, current principal at Andrews High. In addition to improving test scores at Andrews, Wilds has been recognized as the Guilford County Schools Secondary Principal of the Year in 2013 and helped earn Andrews the Hubert Humphrey Award for school improvement during the 2012-13 school year. Wilds is also a graduate of Dudley High.
Ged O’Donnell, principal at Montlieu Academy of Technology, will transfer to Kiser Middle. O’Donnell has served as principal at Montlieu since 2011, and in that time has increased end-of-grade test composite scores by more than 15 percent, increased student enrollment from 406 to 680 and decreased discipline referrals from 114 to 12. He was also GCS’ 2013-14 Principal of the Year.
After serving as principal of Johnson Street Global Studies for the past seven years, Trent Vernon will take a new post as principal of Jamestown Middle. Vernon was named the 2012-13 Elementary Principal of the Year. In his first two years at Johnson Street, end-of-grade test reading scores increased by 23 points, end-of-grade test composite scores increased by 13 points and discipline referrals decreased by 63 percent.
Linda Kidd, principal at Brooks Global Elementary, will bring more than 35 years of educational experience to The Early College at Guilford College. Under her leadership, Brooks Global met or exceeded growth from 2011 to 2014, ranked in the top five of all GCS elementary schools and was an Honor School of Excellence in 2011 and 2012. Most recently, Brooks Global was named a N.C. State School of Character for this school year.
Finally, Andrew Gann will transfer as principal of Sedalia Elementary to principal of Peeler Open School. During his time at Sedalia, Gann established collaborative partnerships with the community, parents and staff; focused on researched best practices for reading and math; and increased reading scores by seven percentage points.
