MELANIE NEAL
"GREENSBORO, NC (July 9, 2015) – Melanie Neal has been named the director of Guilford Metro 9-1-1, effective July 16. Neal, who has 27 years of combined experience working in the 9-1-1 and public safety fields, has served as the interim director of Guilford Metro 911 since 2014.

“Melanie has been in a management role with Guilford Metro 9-1-1 now for more than five years and has proven as the interim director that she is more than prepared to lead this department,” says Assistant City Manager Wesley Reid, who oversees the City’s public safety departments. “She has worked at every level here within Guilford Metro and is knowledgeable on every facet of the operation. She also has the support of the department and we are pleased to have her lead our 9-1-1 team into the future.”

According to Reid, the decision to promote Neal is in coordination and concurrence with Guilford County Manager Marty Lawing. The two government entities share 9-1-1 operations as part of a consolidation agreement.

Neal has worked in 9-1-1 operations since 1999. She has served as the Guilford Metro 9-1-1 emergency communications operation manager from 2010-2014, as well as communications supervisor and telecommunicator. Prior to joining Guilford Metro, she served as a sworn deputy sheriff in Rockingham County from 1988-1998 and reserve deputy sheriff in Guilford County from 1999-2013."
