Geeksboro to premiere long awaited film as part of Star Wars art show

"GREENSBORO, NC – Geeksboro will host an opening gala for their newest art show “Star Wars: FANdemonium” with a special preview screening of filmmaker Patrick Read Johnson’s long-awaited feature film “5-25-77” on December 13.

“Star Wars: FANdemonium” is a multi-media art installation that features original artwork, prints and vintage memorabilia from the “Star Wars” universe.

The art show will also showcase the art and sequential storytelling of “Strikes,” a 26-page autobiographical sequential short written by Bret Parks, owner of Ssalefish Comics and illustrated by Winston Salem artist Ben Towle. Geeksboro will partner with ACME Comics to present an exclusive “Force Awakens” reprinting of “Strikes.”

Other local artists who will be featured in the show include Dan Dos Santos, Brian Smith and T.A. Boatwright.

Filmmaker, UNC School of the Arts professor and ‘First Fan of Star Wars’ Patrick Reed Johnson will conclude the Opening Gala at the Greensboro premiere of his independently produced feature film “5-25-77.” The film stars John Francis Daley (“Freaks and Geeks”) in the lead role of Pat.

Named after the original release date of George Lucas’ now classic “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “5-25-77” is Johnson’s autobiography about growing up in rural Illinois, falling in love and most notably being the first person on earth not associated with the production of “Star Wars” to watch the film.

A veteran feature film director, Johnson’s previous movie credits include the sci-fi comedy “Spaced Invaders,” as well as cult favorites “Angus” and “Baby’s Day Out.”

Geeksboro will present a Q&A with Johnson after the film.

The opening gala for “Star Wars: FANdemonium” will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday, December 13 with the screening of “5-25-77” slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets for the opening gala event are $8 each and can be purchased online at www.geeksboro.com/starwars."
