"Winston-Salem, NC—Bailey Park played host to the 6th annual Colon Cancer Alliance “Get Your Rear In Gear” 5K Run on Sat., April 23, honoring the more than one million Americans living with a history of colorectal cancer. Event organizer Dr. Jaime Bohl, oncologist at Wake Forest Baptist Health, was onsite for the activities to raise awareness about the disease. Other attendees included numerous colorectal cancer survivors and their support teams, making a celebration of the day.
A huge feature at the event was a 20-foot inflatable colon showing the different stages of advancing disease. The attention-grabbing giant colon was a hot spot for selfies. Winston-Salem is one of the many stops along the 2016 Big Colon Tour, a national educational program sponsored by Bayer.
In North Carolina, 68 percent of adults over 50 are being screened for colorectal cancer, but that leaves nearly one-third who are not being screened. For more information visitwww.ccalliance.org/awareness-month/big-colon-tour/> or follow the conversation on Twitter with #BigColonTour."
