Unemployed
man now works for City of Greensboro, thanks to Triad Goodwill
"GREENSBORO, NC –Triad
Goodwill uses 85 cents of every dollar earned in their stores to provide free
career development services for people who are unemployed or underemployed. Last
year they helped 17,179 people in their five-county service area of Alamance,
Caswell, Guilford, Randolph and Rockingham Counties. Goodwill Week
runs through May 7 and Triad Goodwill is celebrating with success stories like
Everardo’s:
Everardo Jaimez came to the Greensboro Community Resource
Center in December 2015 with a big bright smile on his face. He had two
resumes: one catered to his extensive work history in customer service and the
other focused on construction work. We reviewed his resume and made a few
changes to focus on his customer service experience, mainly because Everardo is
bilingual and this would open doors to more opportunities with better pay.
Mr. Jaimez was in our center almost every day. We discussed
job leads and opportunities that might be a good fit. Our focus was on a
long-term career, not just employment, and he was very receptive to suggestions
that from our staff. Everardo volunteered at our career fairs and was always willing
to help others in the computer network room.
He stopped by in February and told us he would be going to his third
interview the following day and he wanted advice on interviewing skills.
Heather Schneck met with him and gave him the help and confidence he needed.
The following week, Mr. Jaimez returned with his big smile and the great news
that he had gotten a job at the City of Greensboro as a bilingual Customer
Service Representative! Despite obstacles, Everardo’s determination and drive
paid off in the end.
