Fairground Fridays Starts Tomorrow; Entrance Changed

"The Fairground Fridays kick-off party, sponsored by Forsyth Technical Community College, will be held tomorrow night, June 27, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Education Building at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. Fairground Fridays is designed for teens in high school but open to all.

Free parking will be available in the Fairgrounds Annex parking lot off Deacon Boulevard. Organizers have moved the entrance from Gate 5, as previously planned, to avoid a conflict with other events scheduled this summer.

The kick-off party features the King BMX Stunt Show, MC Busta Brown, music by Mr. Bill’s Productions, dance contests, gift cards for PacSun at Hanes Mall, give-aways and free arcade games, and the opening of an indoor skateboard park the Recreation and Parks Department is setting up inside the Education Building this summer.

DTLR will have a booth at Fairground Fridays and will be giving out one $50 gift card each week along with other prizes and giveaways. Forsyth Tech will also have a booth at all Fairground Fridays. The kick-off party and all Fairground Fridays will be held rain or shine. Concessions will be available.

Future Fairground Fridays will give away a Trukfit skateboard autographed by Lil Wayne, a Forsyth Tech skateboard, and Zumiez, Journeys and DTLR prizes.

The skateboard park will be open daily through Aug. 1 from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is free and includes use of the arcade games inside the building. Concession stands will be open during skating hours.

Skaters must wear helmets, knee and wrist guards, and sign a waiver if they are over 18. Skaters under 18 must have a parent sign the waiver, which can be printed and filled out at home and brought to the skateboard park. The waiver and complete rules are posted at CityofWS.org/FairgroundFridays.

Fairground Fridays will skip the first week of July for Independence Day and then return July 11, 18, 25 and Aug. 1. More information about Fairground Fridays and the indoor skateboard park is posted at CityofWS.org/FairgroundFridays.

Fairground Fridays is organized by Recreation and Parks. For complete information about Recreation & Parks activities for teens during the summer, go to WePlay.ws."
