‘Operation PASS’ Provides School Supplies and Safety Information to Students

"GREENSBORO, NC (July 7, 2015) –  On Sat., Aug. 15 from 10am-2pm at the Greensboro Sportsplex, 2400 16th St., Greensboro students can receive free school supplies, information about how to be safe, and opportunities for personal development through a program called ‘Operation PASS’.

‘Operation PASS - Partners Advocating Student Success’ was launched in 2012 as an initiative between the Greensboro Police Department, Faithworks Ministries, and several community partners passionate about young people. Over the years, the program has steadily expanded with more than 20 organizations expected at this year’s event.

Representatives from local businesses, government agencies, religious institutions, and civic, youth, and non-profit organizations will be on hand to give school children and their parents a head start to the upcoming academic year. The event is free and features a hot dog lunch, games and activities for children, music, free school supplies, and vouchers for haircuts at local barber shops and salons.

“Back to school has always been an exciting time of the year,” said Police Chief Wayne Scott. “We are glad to be part of a team of amazing partners who are preparing our young people for success – in school and in life. The people of Greensboro are truly caring and giving.”

‘Operation PASS’ supports Scott’s strategy of expanding community outreach efforts to better connect with Greensboro’s residents.

Many School Resource Officers and Police Neighborhood Resource Center officers will be at the event to meet (or re-connect with) the families they serve.
Members of the public interested in contributing school supplies to ‘Operation PASS’ can deposit items in drop boxes located at city buildings and police and fire stations throughout Greensboro. Police are asking for donations of notebooks, pens, pencils, binders, and folders now through August 12th.
