High Point Attracts Top Entertainers to Benefit NC Children

Jim Quick and Coastline, 14-time winners, Entertainer of the Year

"HIGH POINT, NC ­- Two of the top Mid-Atlantic bands will entertain in High Point on Friday, Sept. 9 to benefit children in need of adoption and foster care services.

Jim Quick and Coastline, 14-time recipients of the coveted CAMMY Entertainer of the Year Award, and Sleeping Booty, a favored funk, rock, R&B, and hip-hop dance band, will headline the 8th annual Ilderton's High Point Beach Music Blast.

Proceeds from the Beach Music Blast go to Children's Home Society of North Carolina, founded in 1902 with the mission to promote the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family. Last year CHS served more than 20,000 children and families who needed assistance in North Carolina.

"I was adopted myself, so this event holds a special place in my heart," said Dana Bett, lead singer of Sleeping Booty. "We love playing for this great cause and raising awareness of Children's Home Society of North Carolina. It will be a blast!"

Gates open Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Mendenhall Transportation Terminal in downtown High Point. Stage activities begin at 6 PM and continue until 11 PM. Free parking is available with food trucks providing convenient menu options for the entire family. Bring lawn chairs and blankets - but leave the coolers and pets at home.

Advance tickets are available online through Sept 8 at $15 each and tickets at the gate will be $20. There is no admission charge for children under 12. Tickets are available online here.

High Point CVB Hosts Prime Time on Main Back to School Bash

"HIGH POINT, N.C., August 18, 2016 — The High Point Convention & Visitors Bureau (HPCVB) will kick of the school year with a Back to School Bash at the Regional Visitors Center August 30, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Various organizations will be participating, including High Point University, High Point Arts Council, Theatre Art Galleries and a local brewery.  Uncle Maddio’s Pizza will be providing refreshments. 

 “We love having the HPU students back in town, and encourage all students, including elementary, middle and high school to come and participate in the back to school celebration,” says Nancy Bowman, Director of Sales and Marketing for the HPCVB.  Attendees will enjoy activities including corn hole, give-aways and more.

Arts Splash Concert on July 10 features The Legacy Motown Revue

"Summer is here! Which means the High Point Arts Council’s annual Arts Splash summer concert series is about to be in full motion. Help celebrate the kick off of this year’s Arts Splash on Sun., July 10, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Mendenhall Transportation Terminal in High Point with The Legacy Motown Revue. Arts Splash concerts are free to the public, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic. 

To start on a high note for this year’s anticipated Arts Splash lineup, The Legacy Motown Revue will be performing some of the legendary music that helped shape music for many generations of listeners. The Legacy Motown Revue, which is headed by Stan Stigall, takes listeners on a journey back to the days of The Drifters, The Coasters, The Jacksons, Earth Wind & Fire, The Temptations, and many more legendary groups that had a heavy influence on the music of today. In addition to paying tribute to music that always deserves to be remembered, The Legacy Motown Revue takes their performances to the next level with their horn section and synchronizing dances and vocals.

CALL TO ARTIST FOR DAY IN THE PARK!

The High Point Arts Council is having a "Call to Artists" for its 45th annual Day in the Park festival  Sept 19 and is looking for all kinds of arts and craft vendors to set up booths at the event. 

Day in the Park normally brings out a crowd of around 5,000 and takes place at High Point City Lake Park from 11:00 am- 5:00 pm. The festival consists of arts and craft vendors, food trucks, entertainment, and children activities.

The fee for artists/crafters who hand make all of the product only have to pay a flat rate of $65 and retail vendors can even set up for a flat rate of $100. Please take a look at the link below for more details.

Third Thursdays featuring Shaken & Stirred

"The next Third Thursdays concert at the Centennial Station Arts Center features Shaken & Stirred on May 21! The concert is from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. with a $7 cover charge and a cash bar. The doors, bar and Zeko's food truck open at 6:00 p.m. for those that want to indulge in food and beverages before the concert.

Third Thursdays feature regional musicians and songwriters. Shaken & Stirred is a trio of Triad musicians that features Bobbie Needham strumming swingy guitar rhythms while singing about things your mama should have told you but didn’t. Jack Gorham caresses and pounds the piano backing his songs about time and tenderness. Ken Mickey’s blues based guitar underpins songs of optimistic heart break.

Together they put listeners into a fun rousing state of mind and give them something to think about late into the night. Join us in downtown High Point for arts and entertainment at the Centennial Station Arts Center!
