GYC Hosts Life After High School Training

"The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) Institute is hosting a “Life After High School” training session from 6-7:30 pm February 18 at the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St. The training covers traditional four-year institutions versus non-traditional schools and how to make the right choice for your future. Local schools will also participate in a Trade School Fair as part of this training, including Brookstone College of Business and Priority Nursing College.

The GYC Institute is the GYC’s year-long training series developing teen leadership and vocational skills during monthly training sessions. The sessions are open to all Guilford County high school students. GYC membership is not required to attend. GYC’s Third Annual Fashion Show Set for February 6

"The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) is hosting its third annual Fashion Show at 7 pm Friday, February 6 at the Caldcleugh Multicultural Center, 1700 Orchard St. Admission is $3 at the door. This year’s theme, “Alice in a Greenerland,” is a spinoff of the well-known story Alice in Wonderland. The show features unique components, such as recycled materials used to design the set and in the fashion wear for the models. GYC Announces New Program for Teens

           "New this year to the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) are exclusive teen-only trips or as we like to call them "GYC Entertainment" (GYC ENT). GYC ENT provides a variety of trips from college tours to extreme activities such as outdoor laser tag.

The first trip of the year is Laser Tag at Kersey Valley. This is not normal indoor laser tag with a black light. Kersey Valley offers a high-tech, high-energy outdoor laser tag experience. The trip will take place on Wednesday, October 15 at 2:30pm which is a Guilford County Schools early release day. The cost is $45 which includes two hours of laser tag, snacks, dinner, and transportation. Pre-registration is required and is due by October 1.

GYC Seeks Models for Third Annual Fashion Show

       

  "The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) is seeking a diverse group of teens to model in the 2015 GYC Fashion Show. A model casting or audition will be held on Thursday, September 25 from 6-7pm at the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie Street. No previous modeling experience is necessary. Sessions will be held for those selected to help them bring out their confidence and build their skills.

The purpose of the GYC Fashion Show is to promote a positive self image and body image in young men and women by showcasing fashions that fit all body types. Each year the show also focuses on a topic teens are facing such as bullying. The 2015 GYC Fashion Show is scheduled for February 6.

GYC Seeks Craft Vendors for Ghoulash Festival

"The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) is offering space for five non-food vendors for the 2014 Ghoulash, an annual festival for kids 10-and-under. GYC’s Ghoulash Halloween Festival, which attracts more than 3,000 attendees annually, is from 2-6 pm Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St.

GYC volunteers coordinate safe and fun-filled Halloween activities such as face painting, games, and trick-or-treating for children 10 and under. The deadline to apply is Oct. 1.  Individuals or groups interested in applying or receiving more information about serving as a vendor for Ghoulash should contact the GYC at gyc@greensboro-nc.gov or 336-373-4351."

GYC Holds Orientation and Council Meeting Scheduled for September 4

           

"The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) holds its first orientation of the 2014-2015 school year at 6 pm Thursday, Sept. 4 at the GYC Office, 501 Yanceyville St. High school students will learn more about the organization and how it serves the community, as well as meet current members. Following the orientation there is a meeting of council members from 6:30-7:45 pm to discuss upcoming events and address other business.

GYC provides Guilford County teens the opportunity to earn volunteer and service learning hours while building their skills and making a positive impact on the community. Last year, GYC had an economic impact of $136,927.95 through donations, grants, numerous projects and more than 4,777 hours of community service.

Greensboro Youth Council Hosts Open House and Orientation

"The Greensboro Youth Council (GYC) will hold an Open House and Orientation on Thursday, June 26 at the GYC Office (501 Yanceyville Street) from 5:30 to 7 pm. This is a great opportunity for high school students to become more involved in their community. The first step to become a member of GYC is attending an orientation. Orientations will begin at 5:30 pm, 6 pm, and 6:30 pm. During the orientation, teens will learn how to join the Greensboro Youth Council and about the service learning and volunteer opportunities. Those attending will also get a tour of our office and meet the current Executive Board. During the orientation for teens, the GYC advisors will hold an information session for parents.
