14th Annual Farmers Appreciation Day Set for Sept. 10 at The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market

"Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville St., will host the 14th Annual Farmers Appreciation Day, Sat.Sept. 10, 2016, 8am-12pm, to celebrate local farmers and market vendors with a traditional southern breakfast prepared by guest Chef Alex Amoroso.

The event will be held on the lawn at the corner of Lindsay and Yanceyville Street.  Patrons can enjoy a hearty breakfast of Ward’s Happy Eggs, Neese's Country Sausage & bacon, Old Mill of Guilford grits, sausage gravy, fried potatoes, hot biscuits served with Sweet Morning Farm strawberry jam or apple butter, and fresh fruit.

The cost of the breakfast is $7 per plate with proceeds benefiting the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market. All vendors will receive a complimentary breakfast.

Enjoy live music all morning long: The Ol' Folkie, Julien McCarthy will start the day off at 7:30 am. Laura Jane Vincent will be performing at 9:30 am.

The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market Host 3rd Annual BLT Challenge & Tomato Tasting Saturday August 6, 2016, 8 am – 11:30 am

"Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market (501 Yanceyville Street) will host a Bacon Lettuce & Tomato Challenge & Tomato Tasting Bar on Saturday August 6th from 8 am - 11:30 am on the lawn at the corner of Lindsay & Yanceyville St.

Local restaurants will create their best bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich using their favorite recipe.  Customers will sample all sandwiches and vote for their favorite BLT creation.  This year’s competitors are Tessa Farm toFork, The Green Bean, and Blue Spoon Cooking School  representing the Greensboro Farmers Market team.  Additional teams may be added.  The winner will be announced at the end of market.

Patrons can also sample a variety of tomatoes that will be in season and grown by market farmers:  Pink Girls, Sun Gold, Cherokee Purple, Husky Cherry, Juliet, German Johnson, Big Beef, and Plum tomatoes are just a few of the popular varieties to taste. 

Enjoy live music by local artist Louis Allen beginning at 8 am followed by Laura Jane Vincent at 10 am.  There will be kid friendly activities out on the lawn and picnic table seating is provided. Patrons are encouraged to bring seating or picnic blanket to the event.

The cost is $5 per plate, while supplies last, with proceeds benefiting the Greensboro Farmers Curb.­

Kids First Saturdays at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market on July 2nd

"Greensboro, NC – Kids First Saturdays returns to the Market on Saturday, July 2nd with Educator Rob Jacobs of the Guilford County Beekeepers Association. This Session will focus on the types of bees, beekeeping, products of a bee hive (wax, propolis, and honey), and the history of bees and beekeeping.

This free educational program for children ages 6-12 will be hosted at the Curb and will take place outside (weather permitting) or in the Market’s new Harvest Learning Café. The program will begin at 10:00 am during regular market hours and will be 30-45 minutes.  Kids First Saturdays program participation is available on a first come, first serve basis and pre-registration is required. Gritty Blues at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market Saturday April 23, 2016

"Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville St., will be hosting Gritty Blues out on the lawn, Saturday April 23, 2016 beginning at 8 am.  This tasty event will honor two southern staples, grits with a side of blues!  

Chef Felicia McMillan of Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen will be preparing a southern array of toppings from foods grown by local vendors that will top a piping hot bowl of Old Mill of Guilford Grits.  Patrons will get to choose from tomato chutney, collard slaw, tasso ham, Neese’s Country Sausage & bacon, kale, sweet potato butter, Goat Lady Dairy cheese, and a creamed honey as toppings.

Greensboro Farmers Curb Market Receives Gift from Lululemon for Support of Double SNAP Benefits

"Thanks to a generous donation from Lululemon, a yoga clothing store, Greensboro Farmers Curb Market will continue its doubling of Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) withdrawals.  The Market’s SNAP matching program provides SNAP recipients access to fresh local foods year round and boosts local farmers’ sales. In addition to the support from Lululemon, the SNAP matching program enjoys continuing support from  from Cone Health Foundation,  Hillsdale Fund, and Mary Lynn Richardson Foundation. In 2015, SNAP customers withdrew almost $17,000 from their accounts and the Market issued over 4$11,000 in matching funds.

According to 2014 Gallup Poll by the Food Research and Action Center, the Greensboro-High Point area was ranked number one in worst food hardships in Metropolitan Areas at 27.9%.  As a hub for local foods, the Market is taking steps to help eradicate food insecurity in Greensboro.

"Starting Sat., Jan. 2, customers can stretch their SNAP dollars further at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market. The market is doubling up to $15 worth of SNAP tokens for its Saturday visitors, meaning double your money, and double the items you can purchase. Double SNAP Saturdays will continue through April 16th at which time the Market will double on Wednesdays in conjunction with Mid Week Market which begins on April 20.

Thanks to Hillsdale Foundation and Mary Lynn Richardson Foundation, the EBT/SNAP match program will continue into the New Year. Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville St., will host a Strawberry Celebration and Pancake Picnic on Saturday May 16 from 8 am - 11:30 am on the lawn.

Delicious pancakes will be prepared by guest chef Alex Amoroso of Cheesecakes by Alex topped with fresh strawberries grown by market vendors.

Patrons can enjoy live music by Laura Jane Vincent from 8 am - 9:45 am followed by the Alderman's from 10:00 am - noon.  Hoola hoops and other children activities will be available on the lawn.

Fresh strawberries are available from Rudd Farm, Smith Farms, Byrley Gardens, Root Down, Sawyer Farm, Rural Farm, Farlow Farm, and George Smith of NC Seafood & Greenhouses.

St. Paddy’s Irish Breakfast this Saturday, March 14th, at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market

"Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, will host an authentic St. Paddy’s Irish breakfast on Saturday March 14, 2015, 8 am - 11:30 am in the Market's Harvest Room.

Bring on the luck of the Irish as guest chef, Elizabeth Gibbs of Small Potatoes Mobile Kitchen prepares an Irish breakfast with Banger (sausages) by Massey Creek Farm, fresh eggs from Ward’s Farm, steel cut oats from Old Mill of Guilford, Irish soda bread from Cheesecakes by Alex, and fresh sliced tomatoes from Mindenhill Farm.

Patrons can enjoy music by Walker Street Fiddlers from 10 am to 12 pm.  The Walker Street Fiddlers is a group of young musicians that includes students from third grade through high school and represents diverse students whose common thread is love of music, particularly traditional Irish and American fiddle music. Currently, The Walker Street Fiddlers is comprised of over 30 students from at least a dozen different schools in Guilford, Alamance and Wake Counties.

Kids can participate in a scavenger hunt for special shamrocks that will be hidden throughout the market.  Once found they can be redeemed at the manager’s table for a specialty Shamrock cookie baked by Babycake Sweets.

St. Paddy’s Irish Breakfast at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market

"Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, will host an authentic St. Paddy’s Irish breakfast on Saturday March 14, 2015, 8 am – 11:30 am, in the Market’s Harvest Room.

Bring on the luck of the Irish as local chef Elizabeth Gibbs of Small Potatoes Mobile Kitchen prepares an Irish breakfast with bangers (sausage) by Massey Creek Farm, fresh eggs from Ward’s Farm, steel cut oats from Old Mill of Guilford, Irish soda bread from Cheesecakes by Alex, and fresh sliced tomatoes.

Patrons can enjoy music by Walker Street Fiddlers from 10 am to 12 pm. All kids can participate in a free scavenger hunt across the market all day from 7am to 12 noon  for a chance to win Shamrock cookies baked by Babycake Sweets!

The price of the Irish breakfast is $5.00 per plate and is first come, first serve with proceeds to benefit the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market.

"Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville St., will host "Gritty Blues”, April 25, 2015 from 8-11:30 am, an event honoring southern favorites staples, grits with a side of blues!  YES! Weekly is a sponsor of the event. We will serve Old Mill of Guilford Grits with a variety of savory and sweet toppings from market vendors including shrimp from  George Smith's NC Seafood, bacon, sausages, kale, scallions, spring onions, butter, cheese, garlic scapes, and honey.  Tracy Lamothe, owner of Blue Spoon Cooking School, will be the guest chef for the day.   

Enjoy the sounds of Peter May, Piedmont Blues Preservation Society’s 2014 Solo Blues Challenge winner who takes the stage from 9:30 am - 11:30 am.

Peter May, the son of a Dixieland-style, trumpet-blaring preacher and a hymn-singing, piano-playing teacher, plays original and classic blues, and gospel. Emphasis is on his North Carolina Piedmont style.  Trips to the Delta literally and metaphorically, infuse his personal style with an edge of raw desolation. His classically trained hands mete out precise fingerstyle blues, while his voice belts out something between a holler and a howl.

Gritty Blues is a collaboration to help raise awareness of local foods and music in our area.

February 14th French Toast Brunch at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market

"The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, will host a Valentine’s French Toast Brunch on Saturday February 14, 2015, 8 am - 11:30 am in the Harvest Room which will be transformed into a French cafe.

Start the morning with the one you love as local chefs, Mary Lacklen and Lynn Wells, serve delicious French Toast made with LOAF Bakery challah bread, Massey Creek Farm eggs, and Homeland Creamery milk (available at LOAF Bakery), all of which can be found at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market. A variety of toppings with be available such as chocolate syrup from Black Mountain Chocolate, a tea-infused syrup by Tea Hugger, honey provided by Quaker Acres Apiaries, strawberry citrus reduction, syrup, confectioners’ sugar, cocoa, or maple syrup.

Brunch patrons can sample Black Mountain artisanal chocolates. 

The price of the French Toast Brunch and tasting is $5.00 per plate and is first come, first served with proceeds to benefit the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market.

One can enjoy French bistro music provided by local musicians Neill Clegg, Jr. and Jim Carson from 8 am - 10 am followed by Eric Landsperger (ukulele) from 10 am - 12 pm.

There will be a free scavenger "hunt for hearts" where kids can win fun prizes.  Kids of all ages will enjoy caricature artist, Erik Huffine, who will be available to create a memorable keepsake drawing for a $10 sitting fee.

The Chili Challenge is the market’s 2015 kick off fundraiser.  Held in January for the 4th straight year, the Chili Challenge invites customers to vote for their favorite chili, grab a recipe in preparation of the upcoming Super Bowl (or simply to fight off the cold winter months), and experience the vibrant winter market.

Admission for the event is $5.00, which includes tasting of all 10 chili dishes along with a cornbread side prepared by Feebert’s Bakery, a daily market vendor and Grits Crackers by market vendor, Pat Koegl.

Proceeds will benefit the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market.

Greensboro Farmers Curb Market (501 Yanceyville St.) is collaborating with Partnership for Community Care's Caitlin Romm, RD, LDN, and Sheri Vettel, MPH, RD, LDN,  on Dec. 17  to offer a seasonal carrot, ginger soup sample that is not only tasty, but packs a nutritious punch. This free event will be held during the Mid-Week Market, 9:30-10:30 a.m., and will provide market-goers with a generous tasting and healthy holiday eating tips.
