Downtown Greensboro Celebrates 6th Annual WFMY News 2 Winterfest




"WFMY News 2 Winterfest will celebrate its 6th Annual Grand Opening on Tues., Nov. 17 with the Chick-fil-A Chill Out Block Party. The public is invited to enjoy playing in snow, ice skating, sledding, carriage rides, inflatables, face painting, live music by Eric & the Chill Tones and food provided by Chick-fil-A. Admission and activities are free with the donation of a non-perishable food item. Harvest Food Bank will be present to collect donated food items.

WFMY News 2, Greensboro's local news station, has returned for the 6th straight year as title sponsor of Piedmont Winterfest. "WFMY News 2 Winterfest captures the joy of the winter season and provides the perfect backdrop for creating lifelong memories,” said Larry Audas, WFMY News 2 President and General Manager. “We are a community station and WFMY News 2 Winterfest is the perfect community attraction. We look forward to taking the ice with the rest of the Triad.” Downtown Greensboro Incorporated will continue as the official non-profit sponsor of WFMY News 2 Winterfest. The Downtown Residents Association will also provide marketing and promotional assistance.

WFMY News 2 Winterfest is the only seasonal outdoor ice rink and ice slide in the Triad. Well over 30,000 attendees enjoy this Downtown Greensboro tradition annually. US Figure Skating Champion Ryan Bradley to appear at WFMY News 2 Winterfest

Bradley’s appearance marks his return to the Triad
after winning the 2011 national title in Greensboro.

"U.S. figure skating champion Ryan Bradley will make a triumphant return to Greensboro this weekend for the first time since winning the U.S. Figure Skating National Championships held in the Triad in 2011. This time, instead of competing, Bradley will give back his time to the fans in the community where he earned his national title.

Bradley will sign autographs and pose for photographs on Sunday, December 14, 2014 from 1-2 pm at WFMY News 2 Winterfest located at The Railyard at 106 Barnhardt Street in downtown Greensboro. The appearance will be immediately followed by a visit from Santa Clause from 2-4 pm.

The appearance of Ryan Bradley at the WFMY News2 Winterfest is courtesy of the 2015 U.S. Prudential Figure Skating Championships and is the first of several appearances throughout the 2014-2015 WFMY News 2 Winterfest season. The 2015 U.S. Championships will be held January 18-25, 2015 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex with 350 competitors and a unique layout featuring Practice, FanFest, and Competition all under one roof.  This is the second U.S. Figure Skating Championships to be hosted in Greensboro in four years, with the AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 2011 bringing 250 top U.S. skaters and over 160,000 attendees to Greensboro. WFMY News 2 Winterfest Moves to Cultural Heart of Downtown Greensboro

The WFMY News 2 Winterfest will begin its 5th season in the cultural heart of Downtown Greensboro on South Elm Street this winter beginning November 20, 2014 through January 31, 2015.  With construction set to begin onLeBauer Park, the ice rink and slide festival will relocate to the Railyard at 106 Barnhardt St., two blocks South of Natty Greene's Pub & Brewing Co. The Railyard, a 170 space parking lot developed by Momentum Development Partners also has a number of new businesses adjacent to it – the newly developed Spice Cantina, The WORX restaurant, Gibb’s Hundred Brewery and The Forge. The Railyard has hosted numerous other events including the popular City Market, Mosaic Festival’s “Summer Nights” and the Greensboro Saint Patrick's Day Party.

Popular features such as the Berico Fuels Ice Slide, Rice Scion Skate Shed, Friday and Saturday Night Disco, ice rink webcam and a kid’s play snow area are all set to be a part of the Piedmont's annual tradition for winter fun in the historic district of Downtown Greensboro. Event organizers are excited to announce the return of WFMY News 2 as the event title sponsor.
