"The Big Winston warehouse on Trade Street will be the scene for the first annual "Catch on Trade" event set for Sat., Dec. 5 from 1-7pm.

The family-friendly event will be the perfect time to celebrate the holiday season with live local Jazz, R&B, Soul, Funk, and Rock 'n Roll plus smoked and steamed oysters, seafood gumbo, BBQ by Camel City BBQ Factory, local beer, wine, and complimentary tours and tastings from participating Big Winston Warehouse businesses throughout the day.

Enjoy drinks and live music from 1-7pm from Mason Via, Groove Food, Eyes Eat Suns, Melva Houston, and the Hump Day Players and fresh seafood and BBQ from 1:30 on. The event takes place under roof and throughout the parking lot of the Big Winston Warehouse and Open Market at 772 N. Trade Street, Winston Salem.

Tables and chairs are provided plus burn barrels to help keep warm!  Please bring lawn chairs for extra seating. Tickets are $8 advance and $12 at the gate.

DADA to celebrate more than 30 years of the ARTS in downtown Winston-Salem

The 30 + Festival, to be held Sun., Sept. 27,  from noon until 10 PM, will celebrate the founding of studios on 6th and Trade Streets during the early 1980's by a handful of artists and guided by visionary artist Ron Propst and wife Tamara Propst. This pioneer effort was the seed for what has become the Winston-Salem Downtown Arts District. The Arts District has continued to grow into the vibrant and eclectic mix of galleries, studios, shops, businesses and residences, saturated in the arts and the arts life, that is found today along 6th, Trade and Liberty Streets.

The Downtown Arts District Association (DADA), Is another product of those early group efforts and is the coordinating organization for 30+.

Plans for the festival began in the fall of 2015 and will include visual, performing and literary arts by Arts District Artists - The Dance Stage to showcase various types of movement, a Literary area with readings, booking signings and more, extensive Art and Craft demos and Exhibitions by galleries and artists studios, some of which are opening especially for the festival, Food & Beverage areas by district restaurants and bars, food trucks, The 30+ Chalk Contest on Liberty St with adult & youth categories a film and image screenings by district artists and the 30+ Stage located in the intersection of 6^th and Trade featuring headliner The Devon Allman Band, son of legendary bluesman, Gregg Allman.

Pride Winston-Salem Multi-Couple Wedding Celebration

Winston-Salem (Trade Street Arts District)

Pride Winston-Salem will be holding a multi-couple Live Same-Sex Wedding Ceremony from our Annual Pride Festival at 3:00 PM Saturday Oct. 18 on the Main Stage.

"In celebration of the recent ruling that struck down North Carolina’s  Amendment One as UNCONSTITUTIONAL , five (5) Same-Sex Couples have volunteer to share their wedding ceremony from our main stage at our Annual Pride Festival.

Many couples in our community felt that an out-of-state marriage was their only option, and we celebrate those couples who are now fully recognized here in North Carolina. However, in keeping with our Pride W-S theme for this year, “No Place Like Home”, we wanted to celebrate the couples that held onto the hope that they would one day be able to legally marry the ones that they love in their home state, that they love so much.  For many of us there truly is no place like home.

While this was a very ambitious undertaking this close to our event, we felt we had to take this opportunity to celebrate the victory at our Pride Festival and share this experience with the community. We have had overwhelming support from local & state businesses to help take part in this celebration. Alex Fisher from Lucky Penny Creative, a highly celebrated event planning company, will be offering her services as the wedding planner. Current Pride W-S sponsor, Imagine Flowers, has expanded their commitment to provide flowers for the couples. Sara Terraglio, with Cake Faerie, has graciously donated her cake baking skills to provide the Cake for the occasion.  Live Vocalist Corey Hodges is preparing a special selection for the occasion, and local community activist, Jesse Duncan an ordained officiant, will perform the service. Local photographer, Lindsey Cato has offered to photograph the ceremony, and Blake Stewart & Chris Livengood, of Ember Gallery on Trade St., have offered their Art Gallery as a small private reception area for the cake cutting and fellowship after the service.

Winston-Salem real estate firm launches free bike share program

Linville Team Partners, a commercial real estate company located on Trade Street in Winston-Salem has launched a free bike-share program for its employees, clients, colleagues and friends.

Taking advantage of a series of bike racks installed by the city in the central business district, the company assembled several cruiser-style bikes branded with the Linville Team Partners logo.

"If you're going from Point A to Point B and want to go for a short distance without getting in a car, it's a fun way to get around," said Kelly Whitener with the real estate company.

The program has been in place for about a month, and Whitener said the company just recently blasted information about it out through e-mail and social media. The program operates through a degree of trust.

"We just decided to take that risk," Whitener said. "We understand that people may take advantage of it."

She added that anyone who is interested in using the bikes is welcome to call the office at 336.724.1715 to request the access code.
