On Wednesday I'll have a story in our print edition about Roy Carter, candidate for US Congress in North Carolina's 5th District. The 64-year-old former high school teacher and football coach campaigns on folksy charm (I'm not the only one who compares him to Andy Griffith) and populist fire. Twin City filmmaker Frank Eaton produced an ad earlier this year for Winston-Salem City Councilman Dan Besse (who lost his primary bid for lieutenant governor). Now he deftly weaves Carter's personal storyline into a populist narrative.
