Greensboro council prepares for budget cuts

Greensboro Interim City Manager Bob Morgan promised to brief city council members on possible program cuts to trim the city’s budget by $11.3 million on April 14. The reduction represents 2.7 percent of the 2008-2009 budget, which was $425.7 million. “We’re going to have so many things to consider that we’ve never had to consider before,” he said. “Kind of like gut-check time. We’ll throw something out and if you have just terrible nightmares about it, then we need to rethink something.” At-large Councilman Robbie Perkins said, “There will be no joy in receiving these alternatives.” To which Mayor Yvonne Johnson added, “It will be grueling.”
