Just returned from Greensboro City Council District 2 candidate Jim Kee's campaign kickoff at the Nussbaum Center. Kee has deep and wide community support, and the backing of some high-profile politicians, including Mayor Yvonne Johnson, Guilford County Commmissioner Kirk Perkins and NC Rep. Alma Adams -- all of whom made remarks.
For a district candidate, Kee also enjoys a significant measure of star power; his function was attended by several other city council hopefuls, including at-large candidates Marikay Abuzuaiter and Julie Lapham, and District 1 incumbent Dianne Bellamy-Small and challenger Luther T. Falls Jr.
And, according to a blurb in his kickoff program, he has the support of Henry Isaacson, the dean of real estate and development lawyers in Greensboro. Isaacson argues rezoning cases on behalf of developers, who make significant campaign contributions to council members considered friendly to their interests. Isaacson's support shouldn't come as a surprise: Kee is himself a developer, who is responsible for the Nottingham Forest Phase II residential building project in District 2.

Didn't Isaacson's quotation of support in the program strike you as odd? (I assume this is to what you are referring as I didn't see Isaacson at the kick off.
"Vote for Jim Kee for district 2" or some such mundanely meek statement.
The quote was "Elect Jim Kee for City Council District 2." I will say that it's a statement that doesn't seem to require much forethought. Whether its author is actually Henry Isaacson or the Kee campaign, I find it significant that the campaign wanted to highlight Isaacson's support.
Alright! Another developer!
Seriously? Another developer? Why are people like the Mayor supporting this real estate takeover of City Council? Why not support Nettie Coad instead?
