A sampling of voter turnout numbers at four Winston-Salem precincts this evening reveals mixed results as compared to the 2005 municipal primary.
As of 6 p.m. on Tuesday night, poll workers at Precinct No. 402, located at the 14th Street Recreation Center in the city's East Ward, counted 62 voters who had cast their ballots in municipal primary. Poll workers also counted 10 absentee ballots in the East Ward precinct. Four years ago, 121 registered voters cast their ballots at Precinct No. 402.
As of 6:12 p.m., poll workers at Precinct No. 204, located at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds in the city's North Ward, counted 78 ballots cast in Tuesday's primary. Four years ago, the same precinct recorded 74 votes.
As of 6:34 p.m., poll workers at Precinct No. 501, located at St. Andrews Methodist Church in the Southeast Ward, counted 150 ballots cast with 13 absentee ballots counted. In 2005, Precinct No. 501 tallied 113 ballots.
As of 7 p.m., poll workers at Precinct No. 607, located at Westview Baptist Church in the South Ward, counted 39 ballots cast plus 7 absentee ballots. In 2005, the same precinct recorded 72 ballots cast in the municipal primary.
Polls closed at 7:30 p.m. Rob Coffman, director of elections for the Forsyth County Board of Elections, said he expects all the votes in the seven primary contests to be counted by 10 p.m.
