American Express is going to set-up a data center in eastern Guilford County, the News & Record reports.
Great to have more jobs coming to Guilford County. And it appears these will be decent-paying (read high-tech) jobs, which I'm all for.
Still, $13 million worth of incentives makes me cringe a bit. If the facility employs 50 people, that's $260,000 per job. Even if it grows to 150, as AMEX is saying, that's $86,667 per job. But, the company does estimate an investment of about $400 million for the center. Time will tell what the real benefit to the Triad will be.
CORRECTION: incentives were never given, just considered. I misread the sentence in the N&R article. Apologies. In that case, this is even better news.
