Entertainment license ordinance would give city sweeping new authority

A proposed ordinance that would give the city of Greensboro "new and sweeping authority over the entertainment industry" would require live music venues and sexually oriented businesses with a capacity upwards of 150 people to obtain a public entertainment permit is currently under review by the city's legal department.

Under the proposed ordinance, the chief of police would be required to deny the application if any individual identified in the application was convicted of a felony, in addition to multiple other offenses, including assault, secretly peeping into room occupied by a female, communicating threats or contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Grounds for revocation of a permit would include "a breach of the peace [that] has occurred in or on the premises."

The ordinance would also require all "public entertainments" to have a minimum of one security person on site for "every additional fifty patrons on site."
