PRESERVATION GREENSBORO ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL HISTORIC HOME TOUR

Greensboro, NC - Preservation Greensboro Incorporated is pleased to announce the inaugural Tour of Historic Homes set forSaturday, May 21, 11:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, May 22, 1:00-5:00pm. Ten homes with a special bonus house, throughoutFisher Park and Aycock Historic Districts will be featured on the tour. Preservation Greensboro thanks our presenting sponsor,New Age Builders as well as our tour partner, Southern Evergreen – High Performance Homes.

Tickets were available April 1st. Tickets purchased before the event are $12 for PGI Members and $15 for non-members. Tickets purchased during the tour will be $20.

Between April 1 and May 20th, tickets may be purchased at Blandwood Mansion, 447 West Washington Street (only location for PGI member price) and Architectural Salvage, 330 Bellemeade Street.

Between May 1 and May 20th, tickets may also be purchased at:

· Off ‘N Running, 2201 Joan Street

· Guilford Garden Center, 701 Milner Drive

· Saigon Bakery, 3808 High Point Road

· The Extra Ingredient, 801-D Friendly Center Road (Friendly Shopping Center)

· Bestway, 2113 Walker Avenue.

Participants will be invited to explore these two historic neighborhoods that contribute so much to the Gate City’s charm and character. The houses represented include architectural styles that range from casual Craftsman to grand Neoclassical Revival, and construction dates that span the years 1904 to 1949.

Tour goers will explore houses that have enjoyed comprehensive restoration projects, as well as homes that are available for the next big project. Just as historic preservation incorporates a diversity of housing, this tour of homes represents a cross section of our city.

Participants can win a new Amazon Kindle in the Tour Scavenger Hunt. By being observant during the tour and spotting the unique features in each tour location, tour goers may enter for a drawing of a new Amazon 6” Wi-Fi Kindle. Collection boxes will be at each location and the drawing will be held after the tour is completed.

The collectible, commemorative one-of-a-kind tour tote bag is available for purchase prior to the tour at Blandwood, 447 West Washington Street, for only $15; during the tour, totes will be available at the two information houses, 314 Isabel Street and 108 Cypress Street. Made exclusively for our tour in Greensboro, each tote is unique and in limited supply. Future tours will have their own unique tote available, so tour participants should start their collection by purchasing this year’s tote.

Preservation Greensboro Incorporated is the only local non-profit membership organization that helps protect treasured historic and architecturally significant places.
