Celebrating the completion of "Greensboro's healthy mural" project, residents gathered in the parking lot across the street from the Edible Schoolyard for an unveiling and block party on August 5.
The block party included free food, a moon bounce, face painting and silk screening, and it drew residents from throughout the city.
Keeping with the theme of the mural, organizers provided cards for participants to make a pledge to themselves about how they would contribute to making Greensboro a healthier city.
The mural, painted by local artist Kathleen Kennedy, was completed with the input of a wide range of Greensboro residents who were surveyed about what they felt would create a healthier city. Through a combination of words and images, the mural attempts to capture their answers.
The project was funded with the help of a kickstarter.com project, the Gallucci Fund, and the Center for Principled Problem Solving at Guilford College. It is located on the retaining wall of the Edible Schoolyard on Lindsay Street, part of the Greensboro Children's Museum.
