Greensboro, NC---Downtown Greensboro Inc., the economic development non-profit, has organized an all-day Downtown Home Tour to showcase twelve home sites that feature a mix of single family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and urban apartments. This bi-annual event will showcase nine private homes, plus three residential-commercial properties that illustrate the diverse way of downtown living.
The Downtown Greensboro Home Tour is set for Saturday, May 5th from 10am to 4pm. Tickets are $12.50 per person, purchased in advance includes access to the 12 homesites. A limited number of tour-passes will be available on the day of the event for $15.00.
This self-guided tour includes nine private home sites and three commercial properties, and discounts. Free parking is available at on the street, in downtown decks, and walking the tour strongly encouraged.
Tour tickets will include discounts to downtown restaurants and shops.  A reception and optional tour will also be offered at downtown’s only boutique hotel—the Biltmore Hotel (on Washington Street).  In addition, an optional shuttle will be made available to easily reach some of the outer-lying properties on the Home Tour (see website for details).
Among this year’s highlights, is a roof top penthouse filled with collectible art and memorabilia located in the Art Deco-era Kress terrace; as well as a visit to a circa 1925 storefront that was once home to an armament mercantile. This "pioneer" property has been transformed over the last 25 years into an architect’s studio and home and continues to evolve under the designs of the owners.  Located in the historic Old Greensborough area, the design of this dwelling adheres to the design concept known as the “golden mean” principle.
A spacious New Orleans style townhome offers an interior punctuated with furnishings from the owner’s travels and homes around the globe.  The exterior is flanked by an incredible 40 foot terraced balcony that offers a stunning sightline of downtown’s skyline.
Three distinct commercially managed properties round out this urban home tour lineup.  Beginning at Center City Park, Greensboro’s only high rise luxury condominium property for sale, Center Pointe, will show a fourteenth-floor, newly decorated property with sweeping views of the entire city...even all the way to Pilot Mountain to the West.
In Southside, just across the tracks from the Historic Depot, the tour will offer patrons an opportunity to learn of the expansion plans by City View which highlight their upcoming expansion opening in June 2012.  These exciting new “Green Line” apartments will feature solar-energy and other sustainable features.
Train your sights to the North of Downtown will bring you to the third commercial leasing offering. The new Greenway at Fisher Park apartment complex will also be open for touring for the first time.  Located at the northern track of the upcoming Greenway project, these apartments will be offering downtown residents a bevy of community amenities with a salt water pool, lounge, and club house nestled in between beautiful Fisher Park and downtown’s New Bridge Baseball Park and soon to open Deep Roots Market, a natural foods grocery store.
Lee Mortensen, DGI Vice President and tour organizer notes, “This tour offers a survey of the variety of downtown dwellings here and a behind the scenes glimpse into who lives here in Downtown.”
Mortensen continues "The range of home is diverse with a sleek and serenely decorated town home to an inviting front porch sitting single family cottage and twelve stops, tour goers are encouraged to arrive Downtown early and stay the day, to enjoy the dozens of restaurants, specialty shops, public art and architecture along the way.”

So let me get this straight: DGI wants to charge us to show us properties they're hoping to sell us?

Yeah, right!

Billy, The majority, i.e. 7 private homes are NOT for sale, this is an opportunity to enjoy touring really fabulous architecture and design in private homes and the $ goes straight to promoting ads for the tour, paying for the shuttles, etc.
