City Celebrates National Bike Month in May with More than 20 Planned Activities

"May is National Bike Month and the City of Greensboro’s Department of Transportation has announced more than 20 organized rides, races, and other events that will take place throughout the community to celebrate. Events include Ride with the City on May 12 and Commuter Convoys on May 13 and 15. Many of the events are free and available to riders of all skill levels. “National Bike Month is a great time for cycling enthusiasts and anyone interested in cycling to get out and see why  Greensboro has twice been named a ‘Bicycle Friendly Community’ by the League of American Bicyclists,” said Greensboro City Manager Jim Westmoreland. “As a City, we are continuously working to add more bike lanes. We are also working to complete the Downtown Greenway and we offer nearly 90-miles of trails in our Parks and Recreation system.”

Since 1956, the League of American Bicyclists has designated May as National Bike Month. The event is an opportunity to promote the benefits of biking in all its forms, whether for commuting to work and school, or for recreation. Both the Greensboro Urban Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Greensboro City Council have passed resolutions declaring May 2014 as Bike Month in Greensboro."
