On June 4 at 7 p.m., Shannon Smith of Fox 8 will talk with Neely about his life, his TV show, his cooking, and his love of barbecue. Following the conversation, a booksigning and a reception will be held featuring dessert recipes from the Neelys’ new book, prepared by California Fresh Catering. This event will take place at the Arts Council Theatre at 610 Coliseum Drive in Winston-Salem. Tickets are $15 for a general admission ticket and $35 for a ticket and a copy of his new book, Back Home With the Neelys. This program is sponsored by the Winston-Salem Journal with support from The Chronicle and Twin City Stage.

On Thursday, June 5, Neely will host an Eat & Greet event at 8 a.m. at Sweet Potatoes at 529 N. Trade Street in Winston-Salem, which will include a full breakfast of Fried Catfish, Pecan FlapJacks, Sausage Links, Glazed Ham, Apple Smoked Bacon, Sausage Cream Gravy with Sweet Potato Biscuits, Scrambled Eggs, Cheese Grits, Peach Almond Crisp, and Coffee/Iced Tea. The meal will be based on the Neelys’ recipes and will be prepared by Sweet Potatoes. Stephanie Tyson and Vivian Joiner of Sweet Potatoes will talk with Neely about the food prepared for the event. Tickets are $52 and include breakfast and a copy of Back Home With the Neelys.

Tickets are available for both programs at bookmarksnc.org or by calling 1-800-838-3006. All proceeds benefit Bookmarks.

Neely also will sign books at the Texas Pete Twin City RibFest at The Winston-Salem Journal booth from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on June 5. Bookmarks will have books for purchase at the tent. There is a $1 lunch admission fee to RibFest on Thursday, which is paid at the front entrance.

Patrick “Pat” Neely was born in Detroit, Michigan. In 1988, Neely and his three brothers opened a barbeque restaurant in Memphis. In the early 90s, Pat rekindled his passion for his high school sweetheart, Gina, and the two now have a daily TV show on The Food Network called “Down Home with the Neelys.”  They are also the authors of Down Home with the Neelys: A Southern Family Cookboo and The Neelys’ Celebration Cookbook: Down-Home Meals for Every Occasion.

Bookmarks is a literary arts nonprofit organization based in Winston-Salem that engages, inspires, and connects readers with authors. Bookmarks’ tenth festival of books and authors will be held on September 6, 2014 at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts and in the surrounding area on Spruce Street.
