Tomato Appreciation Day/BLT Cook Off planned at GFCM

"Greensboro Farmers Curb Market is hosting Tomato Appreciation Day in conjunction with a new event, Bacon Lettuce Tomato Sandwich Cook Off, out on the lawn by Lindsay St. as the last fundraiser of the summer. There will be a variety of tomatoes to taste including: Pink Girls, Carolina Gold, Valencia, Yellow Pear, Better Boy, Cherokee Purple, Sweet 100, Sun Gold, and Plum tomatoes. BLT tastings are crafted by chefs from Emma Key’s, GFCM Team, UNDERCURRENT, and the WORX restaurants, each bringing their own creative flair to the BLT in this cook off competition.

The BLT tasting is $5 for 5 samples. Patrons will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite sandwich.

Tomatoes are provided by Byrley Gardens, Farlow Farm, Moore Farm, and Nimby Gardens. Lettuce is provided by Flora Ridge Farm. All donors are regular vendors at the market.

There will be live music by the Buddy Rowe Band (blues/rock) from 8 AM – 9:45 AM, followed by singer/songwriter Chuck Sirko from 9:45 AM – 11:00 AM. Picnic table seating is provided, and patrons are encouraged to bring seating as well.
