"The regional planning consortium Piedmont Together has been awarded 2014 North Carolina Marvin Collins Outstanding Planning Special Theme Award for Equity. The North Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association’s (APA-NC) Marvin Collins Planning Awards program annually recognizes agencies and individuals that have completed outstanding plans, programs, and projects; have excelled as planning students; or have made notable contributions to the planning profession. The awards signify the highest standards of achievement for planning in North Carolina, and highlight work that is worthy of attention. The Piedmont Together project brought together multiple residents and partners from communities throughout the region that are working together to develop solutions and create a stronger local economy. The project, led by the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) and the Piedmont Triad Regional Council, has gathered data and community input, built a network of concerned stakeholders, envisioned scenarios for “possible Piedmonts,” and drafted recommendations that will help guide the Piedmont Triad toward a bright future.
"The awards Committee was impressed that many population groups were surveyed during the Plan's development. The Plan calls attention to inequities in the region and the Committee saw partnering with transit to assist underserved population as an innovative approach to addressing the inequities issue." The award will be presented Thursday October 2, 2014 in Durham, NC during the NCAPA state conference.
