Anita Holder Tapped as Interim Police Chief

"Greensboro City Manager Jim Westmoreland has named Anita Holder as the interim chief of police starting September 1. Holder has been a member of the Greensboro Police Department since 1987 and a deputy chief since 2011.

According to Westmoreland, Holder has the right combination of experience and leadership needed for the interim chief’s role. “Anita has been heavily involved in much of the good work that has been implemented over the last four years under Chief Ken Miller,” says Westmoreland. “She’s engaged in new endeavors, including neighborhood oriented policing, and has a distinct understanding of what the department needs to do to continue to progress during this interim period. We’re fortunate to have her understanding and leadership.”

During her tenure with GPD, Holder has served in patrol operations, vice/narcotics, personnel and training, information and technology, the office of chief of police and as the commander of the support bureau. She’s currently overseeing GPD’s transition to neighborhood oriented policing.
“This is an exciting opportunity and one that I look forward to,” says Holder. “We have a strong department that is doing great things in its service to our community. We will make progress toward accomplishing our goals and our focus will continue to be on building stronger relationships with the residents of Greensboro.”

The City is currently reviewing submissions from executive search firms to assist in managing the recruitment, assessment and selection process required to fill the permanent position of police chief.  The City will make a selection of the search firm by mid September.

Current Police Chief Ken Miller’s last day with the Greensboro Police Department is August 31."
