Police respond to large crowd as gun fire erupts in Winston-Salem

"The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to a parking complaint due to a large number of vehicles being parked in the 5300 Block of Pine View Dr. impeding the traffic flow. Shortly after 11pm on Sept. 6 officers arrived on the scene and realized that a large crowd was gathered at 1146 Cook St. The officers had to park a distance away on Pine View Road due to the large number of vehicles blocking the roadway.

As the officers began walking towards 1146 Cook St. they began to hear multiple gun shots while a large crowd of people were running towards them. It was estimated that approximately 300 plus people were in the crowd attempting to leave the area quickly. Several additional officers were called to the scene to assist with this investigation.

The officers were eventually able to make their way to the residence at 1146 Cook St. The officers did not locate any victims or suspects at this location. However, they did locate evidence of illegal drugs and multiple shell casings related to the shots being fired. It was determined that a large party had been occurring at this residence just before this incident occurred.

A few moments later, the victim, Mr. Jamar Lynch, 24, of 1149 Ajane Ave. in Winston-Salem, arrived at a local hospital suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Lynch said he was shot at this location by an unknown suspect. Lynch was treated and later released from the hospital.


 A search warrant was obtained for the residence at 1146 Cook St. Subsequent to the search of the residence, the following items were seized and the following people were charged with drug related offenses:

A marijuana plant
Items related to growing marijuana (seeds, materials, etc.)
Drug paraphernalia
One rifle
 
Mr. Hezekiah Hickman, 22, of 1146 Cook St., Winston-Salem, was arrested and taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center. Mr. Hickman was charged with the following crimes:

Maintain a Dwelling for Illegal Drugs
Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Evelyn Chamice Monroe (B/F 22) of 5113 Butterfield Dr. was charged with Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Monroe was cited at the scene and released.

Isaiah Akeem Holmes (B/M 25) of 4637 Lasley Dr. was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Holmes was cited at the scene and released.

At the time of this writing, Hickman’s bond and court date have not been set. This investigation is continuing into who shot Lynch and a photograph of Hickman will not be releases at this time.
