"On September 23, 2014, officers
with the Winston-Salem Police Department were dispatched to an “Unknown
Trouble” call at the CVS Pharmacy - 3186 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem. Upon
their arrival, officers were able to determine that Rickey Cook entered the
business armed with a knife and confronted an employee of the business. Rickey Cook threatened that employee, Melissa
J. Whiteman, with the knife and demanded prescriptions drugs from the
pharmacy.
Rickey Cook subsequently took an
undisclosed amount of prescription drugs, but was apprehended by patrol
officers before he could flee the business.
Melissa Whiteman was not injured during the encounter.
The investigation was assumed by
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators were able to determine that
earlier this morning, prior to the opening of the business, Rickey Cook
unsuccessfully attempted to break into the business. Investigators also identified Rickey Cook as
the individual who broke into the Market Place Cinema, located at 2095 Peters
Creek Parkway, on September 06, 2014. On
that date, an undisclosed amount of currency was taken from the business.
Authorities have charged Rickey
Tyrone Cook with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Second Degree Kidnapping,
Felonious Attempt to Break and Enter a Building, Felonious Breaking and
Entering and Larceny after Breaking and Entering. Rickey Cook is being held in the Forsyth
County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secured bond. A court date of October 16, 2014 has been set
in these matters.
