Twin City Stage Presents Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike

"Twin City Stage will present Christopher Durang’s comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, opening Friday, May 29, at the Arts Council Theatre, 610 Coliseum Drive in Winston-Salem.  Additional performances will be held May 30-31 & June 4-7.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 pm, and Sunday matinees are at 2 pm.  Tickets are $25 for adults and $22 for seniors and students.  Group discounts are available.  The box office opens to the public on Monday, May 18 at 12 noon and is open Monday through Friday from noon-5:30 pm.  Call (336) 725-4001 for tickets.

Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia have never left the confines of their childhood home in Bucks County, PA, while their sister Masha has been gallivanting around the world as a successful actress.  When Masha arrives for a surprise visit with her 20-something boy toy, Spike, the normally quiet household is thrown into utter upheaval as its residents and visitors get swept up in an intoxicating mixture of lust, rivalry, regret, and the sudden possibility of… escape.

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, as well as the Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award.  The New York Times raved, "Broad comic acting is raised to the level of high art…deliriously funny…a heedless good time.”  (Note: this show contains mature language and situations and is not appropriate for children.)

Jim McKeny will direct the production.  Andrew Lopina will design the set, with lighting design by Shawn Hooper.  Justin Hall will design costumes and Edwin Martinat will serve as props master.  Elizabeth Rief will stage manage, assisted by Becky Proie.  The cast is as follows:

            Michael Ackerman - Spike
Mark Flora – Vanya
Sarah Jenkins - Nina
Janice Lovett – Sonia
Sally Meehan – Masha
Caitlin Stafford – Cassandra

An Opening Night Reception, with wine provided by Raffaldini Vineyards and hors d’oeuvres & sweets, will begin at 7 pm on Friday, May 29, in the lobby.

Audio description by Voice of Vision will be available for the visually-impaired during the Sunday, June 7, matinee performance.  Patrons can request this service when they make their reservation (box office: 725-4001).
