First Friday : South Elm Projects Public Opening Friday, August 7 from 6-10pm at Elsewhere & Hamburger Square

Kit-O-Cart in-progress by Chat Travieso opens
to the public this Friday as part of South Elm Projects.
"Featuring new artworks created by current South Elm Projects artists Chat Travieso and Samara Smith.

Kit-O-Cart by Chat Travieso is a mobile seating platform and stage that fits in a parking space to travel around Greensboro for pop-up performances and staged events. It challenges notions about our pedestrian priority on the street and rethinks how we use parking space for public space.

On Hamburger Square by Samara Smith is a site-specific mobile media project exploring the history and personality of Hamburger Square, while creating a contemporary digital monument. Utilizing smart phones and augmented reality technology, this project will layer community stories – audio interview montages and soundscapes – over real-objects in Hamburger square.

First Friday will kick off at Elsewhere at 6pm with special performances by local Greensboro artists and organizations with opportunities to tour the museum until 10pm. Additional pop-up performances will take place during the evening throughout the South Elm neighborhood and at Hamburger Square.

The event will also feature the opening of new works by Southern Constellations Fellows Regina Agu and Iman Person
